NFL insider: New York Giants to 'scour the earth' for options at QB

The New York Giants’ search for a new quarterback continues after Matthew Stafford reached an agreement to re-sign with the Los Angeles Rams. The Giants were considered one of the front-runners for his services, and are now having to look elsewhere for help at under center.
Whether that comes in free agency, or at the 2025 NFL Draft remains to be seen. However, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler provided the latest on where the Giants stand in their quarterback search, including some names for fans to keep an eye on moving forward.
“I’m told that they’re basically going to scour the earth for quarterback help,” Fowler said during an appearance during SportsCenter on Saturday morning. “They were really left at the altar in the Matthew Stafford situation when he went back to LA. They spent about a month on that deal. It’s tough.
“You’ve got Aaron Rodgers there. Certainly, there seems to be a little momentum league-wide that Rogers could be a New York Giant. He still has a home in New Jersey when he played for the [Jets]. That could all shake out, but they’re expected to look at a lot of these guys.”
Apart from Rodgers, Fowler name-dropped the likes of Russell Wilson, who is a free agent after spending one season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Fowler called him a “sleeper” option for New York at the moment. He also mentioned Sam Darnold, who is coming off the best season of his career for the Minnesota Vikings and is not expected to be returning to the team next season.

Wilson, 36, finished his 13th season in the NFL throwing for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions on 63.7% passing. Fields, 25, passed for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns and one interception with a 65.8 completion percentage, and added five rushing scores.
For Darnold, 27, he threw for 4,319 yards, 35 touchdowns and 12 interceptions on 66.2% passing. He led the Vikings to a 14-3 regular season record before Minnesota lost in the NFC Wild Card round.
The New York Giants also hold the No. 3 overall pick behind the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns. The top two quarterbacks in this year’s class, Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward, could be possible targets for the Giants in the first round when April’s annual event rolls around. They could boost their room in numbers by selecting an additional QB in the later rounds of the draft.
For now, Tommy DeVito is the only quarterback from left last season’s active roster in New York after both Drew Lock and Tim Boyle became free agents this offseason.
