At least one NFL insider thinks former Vikings running back Dalvin Cook is taking his talents to the Jets. So if the story holds, the NY backfield lands another star alongside Aaron Rodgers.

Albert Breer, the senior NFL reporter for Sports Illustrated, was taking questions Wednesday night on Threads, the newest social media platform. An NFL fan asked Breer “Dalvin Cook, Jets, yes or no.”

Breer responded “I think there’s a good chance Cook becomes a Jet and my sense is it’s a team he’d like to go to. He makes sense for them, too. Getting him would allow them to be judicious (in) bringing Breece Hall back.”

Dalvin Cook still has about two to three weeks to come up with a final destination team. That’s because he’s indicated he might not make a decision until training camp starts. The Vikings cut the four-time Pro Bowler last month for financial reasons. Although Cook still can churn the yards, he was set to make $10.4 million with Minnesota. That’s now considered a borderline extreme expense for a running back. Rookie Bijan Robinson is the highest-paid back this season with a salary of $13.72 million. Christian McCaffrey (49ers) will earn $12 million. And Saints running back Alvin Kamara gets $11 million.

Home cooking: Dalvin Cook grew up in Miami, so will he play for the Dolphins?

The thinking was Cook may head back to Florida, his home state, and play for the Dolphins. Until the Vikings selected him, Cook’s football career flourished in the Sunshine State. He starred for Miami Central High School, then dominated at Florida State.

From an interview he gave in late June to SiriusXM radio, Cook talked up the Dolphins and their offense.

“Yeah, it’s an exciting situation to go into when you got guys that can stretch the field on the outside,” Dalvin Cook said. “I think that defense is pretty solid to me. Tua (Tagovailoa), when he’s out on the field, they got a winning a record.”

He added: “As a running back you look for a certain scheme. And I know the scheme that I’m good in, and that’s outside zone, and that’s what the Miami Dolphins run. So it’s like, you know, it’d be a perfect fit. And the roster … speaks for itself.”

If it’s the Jets, it won’t be a one-man running back show. The Jets selected Breece Hall, the former Iowa State star, in the second round (36th overall) of last year’s NFL Draft. Hall was playing well as a rookie. But he tore his ACL in late October during a game against the Broncos. The Jets also signed Rodgers in hopes the long-time Packer will get them far into the playoffs. Who knows, maybe Dalvin Cook will help with that quest as well.
