NFL owners are counting votes towards removing Daniel Snyder as owner

Washington Commanders owner Daniel Snyder has caused the NFL headache after headache over the past few years. It’s been scandal after scandal. Well, it turns out, NFL owners might be finally sick and tired of dealing with his near endless list of problems and they are “counting votes” towards potentially removing him as the owner of the Commanders, one team owner told Jarrett Bell of USA Today.

Of course, the votes to get rid of Snyder would just be the beginning, not the end of the process. There would likely be an extensive and nasty legal battle between Snyder and the NFL with regards to him selling his business.

The move doesn’t come as a surprise and quite frankly, it’s surprising the group of NFL owners didn’t take action on Snyder sooner over the past few years. The league loves to champion how they can discipline players if they tarnish the image of the NFL shield. Well, to put it simply, few owners in NFL history have dirtied the image of the league worse than Daniel Snyder.

Not only was the franchise accused of very serious sexual assault allegations, but more recently, the Commanders were accused of scamming their customers out of an alleged $5 million. One team owner said of the ticket fraud scheme, “If that happened, I think that’s the nail in the coffin.”

The franchise has been in such dramatic dysfunction and disarray over the past few years, that they’ve drawn the attention of Congress a number of times.

Besides the NFL owners, it’s quite possible that much of the Commanders’ fan base have wanted Snyder gone and for quite some time. It’s been a dysfunctional franchise for more than two decades, since he purchased the team in 1999.

If Snyder is finally removed from the franchise, the new owner would potentially have an endless amount of work to do, both on and off the field.
