NFL punishes 49ers DE Nick Bosa for MAGA hat following win over Cowboys
The NFL has punished San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Nick Bosa for wearing a MAGA after the team defeated the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football. The NFL intentionally waited an extra week to levy the penalty until after the 2024 Presidential Election was over.
The NFL has fined Bosa $11,255 for crashing a post-game interview on NBC during Sunday Night Football wearing the Make America Great Again hat. Adam Schefter was first to report the news of the punishment.
Bosa was spotted wearing the MAGA hat while interrupting a post-game interview with 49ers tight end George Kittle, quarterback Brock Purdy and running back Isaac Guerendo. NBC’s Melissa Stark was speaking to the three players when Bosa came into the frame and pointed to the hat that had “Make America Great Again” lettering in gold.
“Nick Bosa with a message there,” Stark said as Kittle, Purdy and Guerendo awkwardly smiled, per SFGate . NBC took out Bosa’s interruption from the social media video of the interview. When Bosa spoke to reporters, he was asked about why he chose to wear the MAGA hat.

“I’m not going to talk too much about it, but I think it’s an important time,” Bosa said. Bosa has been known to support former President Donald Trump in the past. Over the summer, the former Ohio State star met Trump during a UFC fight in Miami.

Bosa was also asked if he was “tempted in the past” to brandish his support for Trump. “It’s definitely a little easier nowadays, but no, I don’t feel too inclined to do that,” Bosa said. The MAGA hat incident occurred the same night as Trump held a rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The Trump administration is taking heat for the rally due to the racist and discriminatory speech from multiple speakers.
In the win against the Cowboys, Bosa collected three tackles, one tack for loss, one sack and three quarterback hits. Through eight games this season, Bosa has tallied 28 tackles, nine tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He has spent his entire career with the 49ers and has been selected to the Pro Bowl four times.
