Rejoice, there is a glimmer of football on the horizon. On Friday, the NFL released its schedule for nationally-televised preseason games.

The Bears and Texans will play in Pro Football Hall of Fame game in Canton, Ohio. The game is the traditional kickoff for preseason. It’s played in Canton, Ohio, and is part of the induction festivities for this year’s Hall of Fame class. Note Aug. 1 on your NFL calendar. The game will be broadcast on ABC/ESPN, starting at 8 p.m. Eastern.

Surely the Bears will show off Caleb Williams, at least for a series. The quarterback was the first pick of this year’s NFL Draft. The Texans feature CJ Stroud, last year’s second pick of the draft who earned NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

NFL also has national games on Aug 18, 22 and 25

Week two on the NFL preseason schedule isn’t until Aug. 18. The featured game is the Saints at the 49ers. Fox will carry the game. And it’ll kick at 8 pm. The 49ers want to get back to the Super Bowl. Meanwhile the Saints have changed their offensive coordinator to help get back to the playoffs.

Amazon Prime Video has the next game on Aug. 22. It’ll be the the Colts at the Bengals. It’s another 8 p.m. kick. Note that the game is on Thursday. The Colts nearly made the playoffs a season ago. They have quarterback Anthony Richardson back. The Bengals likely will be careful with their quarterback. Joe Burrow. He strained a leg muscle in training camp last year. Then he tore a ligament in his throwing wrist in late October. That injury needed surgery, which forced his season to end early.

There will be two NFL national games on Sunday, Aug. 25. CBS will carry the early game (kick at 4:30 pm), featuring the Cardinals at the Broncos. Kyler Murray is back in control at Arizona. Meanwhile, Denver head coach Sean Payton may have his quarterback situation figured out by then. In OTAs, he gave three quarterbacks — Jarrett Stidham, Zach Wilson and Bo Nix — reps with the first team offense.

The final NFL national game is the Patriots at the Commanders on the night of Aug. 25. NBC has the broadcast with an 8 p.m. start. This contest could be intriguing.. Drake Maye, the No. 3 pick of the draft, could be the starter for the Patriots, against Jayden Daniels, who the Commanders selected at No. 2.
