Report: NFL reviewing Kareem Jackson hit for further punishment following ejection
According to NFL insider Adam Schefter, Denver Broncos safety Kareem Jackson could face further punishment following a brutal hit he put on Washington Commanders tight end Logan Thomas on Sunday.
Late in the second quarter of the Broncos game versus the Commanders Jackson laid a hit on Thomas in the end zone that sent Thomas out of the game with an injury and Jackson out of the game from an ejection for an illegal hit. And Schefter revealed that the hit is being reviewed by the league to see if further discipline should be handed down to Jackson.
The play only comes one week removed from Jackson laying another illegal hit on Las Vegas Raiders wideout Jakobi Meyers, which also sent Meyers out of the game and resulted in a $14,189 fine for Jackson.
Jackson is in the midst of his 14th NFL season following a successful collegiate career at Alabama, but is no stranger delivering questionable hits in his career. He was fined $42,000 in the 2013 season for a hit on Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kendall Wright who was deemed a defenseless player and suffered a fractured rib as a result.
A 50-yard Hail Mary pass from Russell Wilson to Brandon Johnson gave the Broncos a chance to tie the game with a two-point conversation against Washington on Sunday, but they failed to convert, extending the Commanders’ record to 2-0 and dropping Denver to 0-2 to start the season.

Kareem Jackson ejected after illegal hit knocks Logan Thomas out of game
Washington Commanders’ tight end Logan Thomas took an absolutely vicious shot on Sunday afternoon. It was on a touchdown pass in the middle of the end zone. Thomas caught the football across the middle, where he was immediately met by Broncos corner Kareem Jackson, who launched at the point of contact. It was one of the more vicious hits you’ll see in the 2023 NFL season. Jackson was ejected for the hit. Thomas was down on the field for a few minutes, eventually ran off the field, but was later evaluated for a concussion.
Check out the hit here.
It’s mind-blowing that Thomas was somehow able to catch the ball despite getting leveled like that. What an unreal grab. Without a doubt, one of the best catches of the weekend.
Jackson has been in the league since 2010. He’s snatched 20 interceptions thus far in his career, with his highest number (four) coming in 2012, when he played for the Houston Texans. Jackson has tallied over 900 tackles in the NFL. The highest number of tackles he’s recorded in one season came last year with the Denver Broncos, when he tallied 94 tackles. While he hasn’t racked up an extensive number of awards or accolades, a 12-year career in the National Football League is impressive.
