NFL social media disregards Patrick Mahomes request with Xavier Worthy overlay
Patrick Mahomes, even with three Super Bowl rings, gets no respect from the NFL. The Chiefs quarterback didn’t want to see his 40-yard performance, something he did not do well, on an overlay loop with any of this year’s runners from the combine.
But it is way too funny not to share it, especially Saturday afternoon, after Xavier Worthy broke the NFL Combine record with a sizzling 4.21. It would be a disservice to keep the masses from seeing how then rookie-to-be Patrick Mahomes, back in 2017, ran his 40. Back then Mahomes practically plodded his way to a time of 4.8.
The NFL tweeted “We’re really sorry about this one, Patrick Mahomes, Xavier Worthy.” The social media account added a crying emoji. Sarcasm at its finest.
Patrick Mahomes did see Worthy’s time. He tweeted Crazzyyyy
Of course, we all know that in reality, Mahomes probably is the most respected player in the NFL. You can’t ignore his three rings. But sometimes it is fun to come for the king, so long as it is in a playful, mostly respectful way.

The NFL Combine is for the young bucks with something to prove. Mahomes was one back in the day. When he started the scouting process back in 2017, NFL draft analysts like Mel Kiper thought he was a second day pick. But Mahomes ended up as the 10th pick. However, his 40 time did not convince anyone, either way. Quarterbacks really don’t do much training for the 40.
But receivers can make a ton of cash when they turn heads at the combine with their speed. This draft is top heavy with receivers. Ian Rapoport, a reporter with the NFL Network, said scouts now are saying Worthy could be the fourth receiver selected. The top three are likely headed to the top 10.
We’re thinking that Patrick Mahomes does not mind the playful ridicule.
