NFL star comes out of retirement for Super Bowl run with Rams

In a shocking turn of events, an NFL star has come out of retirement to join the Rams for the playoffs. On Wednesday, it was revealed that All-Pro safety Eric Weddle was joining Los Angeles for a Super Bowl run.

“Reunion: The Rams are signing S Eric Weddle to play in the playoffs, per agent David Canter,” tweeted NFL insider Ian Rapoport. “With the injury to Jordan Fuller, Weddle steps in. Wild.”

Weddle is no stranger to the organization, spending the 2019 season with Los Angeles. Then, the star safety announced he was retiring from the league in February of 2020. After a Super Ring eluded him the entirety of his career, Weddle now how his best shot yet at the accomplishment.

The Rams begin their playoff run against a familiar foe, welcoming the Arizona Cardinals to town on Monday night. It remains to be seen how big a role Eric Weddle will have in the game.

Furthermore, a Super Bowl victory is one of the lone accomplishments Weddle can add to his resume. Throughout his career with the San Diego Chargers, Baltimore Ravens and Rams, Weddle was consistently one of the best defensive players in the league.

To illustrate, the former Utah star was named an All-Pro five times — elevating to a First-team selection in 2011 and 2014, and being recognized as a Second-team selection in 2010, 2012 and 2013. Additionally, Weddle was a six-time Pro Bowl selection throughout his career.

The star safety also gained a reputation as a ball-hawk, co-leading the NFL in interceptions in 2011. In his career, Weddle accumulated 1,178 tackles, 9.5 sacks, 29 interceptions and 8 forced fumbles.

Eric Weddle had an amazing NFL career. However, the possibility of adding a Super Bowl ring was motivation enough to get him to return to the league after almost two years on the sidelines.
