NFL Sunday Ticket, RedZone releasing in Apple App Store for ludicrous prices

NFL Sunday Ticket is now available to purchase through the Apple App Store, but it’s going to cost fans a lot of money. As mentioned by John Ourand of Puck, consumers who sign up through the YouTube app on their iPhone or iPad will pay $679.99 annually. If consumers want to bundle NFL Sunday Ticket with NFL RedZone, it will cost $739.99 annually.
Ourand reached out to the league to find out why the prices are so high. The league said, “The NFL does not control the pricing of Sunday Ticket and does not set or receive any additional fees associated with its sale.” Ourand mentioned that Apple takes a 30 percent cut of everything sold in their store.
If fans purchase NFL Sunday Ticket or the bundle through YouTube TV it costs $379 and $419, respectively. This news comes shortly after a judge overturned a $4.7 billion verdict in the NFL Sunday Ticket case where the jury ruled the league owed fans and bars after being overcharged for their service. U.S. District Judge Philip Gutierrez of the United States District Court for the Central District of California made the decision because the jury couldn’t find “class-wide injury or damages” during the trial.
“For the foregoing reasons, the Court grants Defendants’ judgment as a matter of law as without the testimonies of Dr. [Daniel] Rascher and Dr. [John] Zona no reasonable jury could have found class-wide injury or damages,” the docket order read.

NFL Sunday Ticket provides ‘array of options’
“We are grateful for today’s ruling in the Sunday Ticket class action lawsuit,” the NFL said in a statement. “We believe that the NFL’s media distribution model provides our fans with an array of options to follow the game they love, including local broadcasts of every single game on free over-the-air television. We thank Judge Gutierrez for his time and attention to this case and look forward to an exciting 2024 NFL season.”
In December 2022, the NFL announced that Sunday Ticket would move exclusively to YouTube TV after being on DirecTV since its inception in 1994. The subscription service consists of all out-of-market Sunday regular season NFL games broadcast on Fox and CBS.
“We’re excited to bring NFL Sunday Ticket to YouTube TV and YouTube Primetime Channels and usher in a new era of how fans across the United States watch and follow the NFL,” league Commissioner Roger Goodell said at the time. “For a number of years we have been focused on increased digital distribution of our games and this partnership is yet another example of us looking towards the future and building the next generation of NFL fans.”
