The relationship between Nick Saban and Deion Sanders has been well-documented in recent years. Whether they are starring in Aflac commercials together or speaking highly of each other’s programs, there is an immense amount of respect for each other. It’s continued as Saban has retired and moved into the media.

Recently, Saban was on The Pivot podcast and they were discussing Saban getting back into coaching (while laughing) after stepping away. Ryan Clark jokingly suggested the Dallas Cowboys job was open, giving Saban an opportunity to get back into the NFL. But turns out, the former Alabama head coach wants his good friend to wind up in Dallas.

“Me and Deion,” Saban said. “I want him to get that job.”

Sanders has been linked with the Cowboys ever since Jerry Jones made a move. Reports stated there have been discussions between the two about the possibility. To this point, no formal interview has been conducted.

Two years at Colorado has seen Sanders completely turn around the program. From 4-8 one season to 9-4 the next, the Buffaloes played in a bowl game for the first time since 2020. Sanders has found success in Boulder and at Jackson State. If he were to take the next step up, a lot of rumors surround the NFL.

Many have voiced their support for Dallas to hire Sanders, seeing avenues for success. Saban is just the latest, hoping to see Coach Prime back with the Cowboys.

Ian Rapoport would be “very surprised” if Deion Sanders interviews with Cowboys

A few NFL teams are working through the hiring process, arguably none more high stakes than the Dallas Cowboys. A few interviews have taken place since firing Mike McCarthy, with the latest buzz surrounding Brian Schottenheimer. But nobody linked to the Cowboys has been as widely publicly discussed as Sanders.

There has not been an official interview set up and according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, one never may take place. On Sunday, Rapoport said he would be surprised if the Cowboys interviewed Sanders for the job. There have been conversations, specifically with Jerry Jones, but appears to be nothing more.

“Nothing scheduled yet with Coach Prime,” Rapoport said. “I would be surprised, probably very surprised, if something did in fact get scheduled. But that won’t stop everyone talking about it until he signs a new deal with Colorado.”
