It was an emotional game on Sunday between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Commanders. Now, details of just how emotional things got between the two sides are starting to come out with it being reported that Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni and Commanders tight end Zach Ertz needed to be separated following the game due to an altercation.

Ertz, a former Eagles tight end, was coached for one season by Sirianni. That was back in 2021 and it saw him get traded mid-season to the Arizona Cardinals.

According to the report, Ertz took issue with something that Sirianni said about his play during the game on Sunday during the handshake line. That, in turn, led to the altercation that Big Dom DiSandro, the Eagles chief security officer, needed to step in and break up.

Big Dom gained notoriety of a sort last season when he became involved in his own altercation on the sidelines. That one came in a game against the 49ers and linebacker Dre Greenlaw. At the time, he was ejected and later banned from the sidelines for the remainder of the season by the NFL for his role in that scuffle.

Nick Sirianni would later apologize to Zach Ertz via a Zoom call. However, neither has publicly shared what was said between the two that led to the altercation. It’s unclear if their prior history played a role in the altercation.

It was, for Ertz, not his best game statistically. He had just one catch for 12 yards. It was his worst statistical performance since November 3rd against the New York Giants.

For Nick Sirianni and the Philadelphia Eagles, the loss snapped a 10-game winning streak. The loss is going to make it nearly impossible for Philadelphia to lock up the first overall seed in the NFC this season. Still, the Eagles are in a good position to win the NFC East. They’re currently 12-3 and have a two-game lead on the Washington Commanders. That’s with two games remaining for each team and having split the two-game season series against one another. So, one more win would clinch the division for Philadelphia.

While Washington is still behind the eight-ball when it comes to winning the NFC East, the Commanders are still in a position to compete for a Wild Card spot. 2020 was the last time Washington made the playoffs and did so with a 7-9 record. 2012 was Washington’s last 10-win season.
