Noah Gragson confronts Carson Hocevar following Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis
Another day on the track and more complaints about the driving of Carson Hocevar. Such has been the case after a handful of recent NASCAR races.
Hocevar was the culprit in one big wreck on Sunday that collected multiple drivers, and driver Noah Gragson, who was not one of them, confronted Hocevar on the track after the race.
What did he have to say to his fellow driver?
“Just talked about typical stuff that he does on the racetrack and the annoyance of it,” Gragson said, as if swatting a rather pesky fly away.
The biggest incident on the day involving Carson Hocevar came during the third and final stage of the race.
The wreck took place when the cars were getting ready to head into a turn, going two wide across the track. Hocevar pushed to make it three wide, getting some space between two other cars.
But he had nowhere to go, eventually making contact with Ryan Blaney’s left rear and sending him angling into Jimmie Johnson. Johnson went straight into the wall from the low side of the track and collected Joey Logano with him.
Blaney, for one, was heated at Carson Hocevar.
“Where on God’s green earth did he think he was going? … I don’t understand how some of these guys process what they process,” Blaney said on his team’s radio. “It’s shocking to me.”

Gragson, for his part, managed to avoid the majority of the drama with Hocevar but still took issue with him after the race. His own race went fairly well, with a P9 finish.
“Overall a good day from where we started practice on Friday,” Gragson said, putting the Carson Hocevar incident behind him. “We struggled and then kept working hard together as a 10 group and got better for qualifying, qualified 21st and then yeah, finished up in the top 10. Drew called a great racing strategy.
“We got stage points in the first stage and then we were able to — I was hoping for a few more laps. A few more restarts, because I think a lot of those guys would have run out of fuel and we would have been in pretty good position. But overall a fun day, a privilege to race here. Lot of fans, which was awesome to see, so want to say thanks to all the fans for the support. And Drew Blickensderfer and the rest of this Bass Pro Shops team, they did a great job.”
Carson Hocevar drama aside, Gragson seemed to enjoy his first experience of the Brickyard 400.
“It’s cool to be here on the oval,” he said. “Took some time for me to get used to it, but I felt pretty comfortable in the race. We made some good changes and I got a lot more comfortable. Just a cool track, ride-around lap was awesome. The fans are so badass here, so it’s definitely a privilege to be here.”
