North Carolina star running back Omarion Hampton declared for the 2025 NFL Draft on Sunday. He announced the news in a post on his Twitter profile.
Hampton wrote a lengthy note, finishing it off with, “With that being said, after much thought and prayer, I am officially announcing that I will be declaring for the 2025 NFL Draft. It has been my dream for as long as I can remember to play in the NFL, and I am grateful for the opportunities that led me here–Omarion Hampton.”
Hampton has been one of the most electrifying running backs in college football the past few years and he figures to be one of the most coveted running back prospects in the 2025 class. This season, he had 281 carries for 1,660 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns. Hampton finished his North Carolina career with back-to-back seasons of over 1,500 rushing yards.
He rushed for 1,504 yards and 15 touchdowns last season, firmly cementing his status as one of the nation’s best running backs. As a receiver, he also hauled in 29 catches for 222 yards and one touchdown.

Hampton finished his impressive career in Chapel Hill as fourth in all-time rushing yardage (3,565 yards) at UNC. He also became just one of three players in program history with three 200-plus rushing yard games. Hampton ran for 100 yards or more in eight games this season, a UNC record. He became the only player in North Carolina football history to accomplish such a feat. The last running back in ACC history to accomplish such a feat was Tiki Barber (Virginia).
North Carolina (6-6 overall) will face off against the UConn Huskies (8-4 overall) in the Wasabi Fenway Bowl. That one will be played on December 28th. Kick time is set for 11:00 AM and the game will be nationally televised on ESPN.
