Both programs are coming off losses to the Big Ten’s best. Michigan fell to Indiana 20-15 before moving to its bye in Week 12. For the Wildcats, they’re coming off a loss to Ohio State at Wrigley Field. That forces Northwestern’s back against the wall as it has to win out to make a bowl game — making Saturday must-win.

For Michigan, they’re not bowl eligible yet, either. If they don’t beat Northwestern in Week 13 — the Wolverines’ bowl eligiblity will come down to the Ohio State game in Week 14.
Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore spoke about his team’s gameplan to attack game week coming off a bye that followed a tough loss.
“I think the biggest thing is, like, yeah, you’re trying to get better, but you really have to focus on the things you need to do to help yourself win,” Moore said during the Wolverines’ bye week. “You know, we got Northwestern next week, and then we’ve got that team down south the week after. So, I told the staff today, like, just, you know, our only job right now is to go win these two games, and not think about anything else, and we got to go get better this week.
“So, go put together the best plans we’ve ever put together for Northwestern, and have our thought processes of Ohio State.”
