Notre Dame vs. Purdue: Early point spread released, How to Watch
For the first time since 2021, Notre Dame and Purdue will renew their rivalry. The battle for the Shillelagh Trophy highlights the Week 3 slate, and the early points spread has been released.
Notre Dame opened as an 11.5-point favorite over Purdue, according to FanDuel. The over-under is set at 45.5 for the matchup.
The Fighting Irish suffered the most shocking upset of the young season so far in Week 2. Northern Illinois came in to South Bend and stunned Notre Dame 16-14 on a field goal in the final seconds. The Huskies are set to receive $1.4 million from the Fighting Irish to play the game.
Notre Dame was fresh off a huge victory over Texas A&M on the road last week, which adds to the shocking nature of the upset. After NIU hit the go-ahead field goal, Riley Leonard tried to lead the Fighting Irish on a game-winning drive, and they got to the NIU 44-yard line with nine seconds left.

But once again, Mitch Jeter’s field goal attempt was blocked – and the upset was complete. Now, Notre Dame has to get ready to head to West Lafayette to take on Purdue for the first time since a 27-13 victory in 2021.

After the loss to Northern Illinois, Marcus Freeman spoke about what could’ve gone wrong for Notre Dame. He said the staff will have to evaluate how it prepares for games, but also pointed out the Fighting Irish have been in this spot before.
“Obviously disappointing,” Freeman said. “Disappointing in the performance. It’s our job as coaches to make sure these guys are ready to go, and we’ve got to go back and evaluate the way we prepared and figure out exactly [where] the mishaps occurred in preparation. I’ve always said, performance is a reflection of preparation. We’ve got to figure out where we failed in preparation.
“It’s disappointing. You go from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows in the tale of two weeks. We’ve got to own this thing. As players and coaches, we’ve got to own it. I’ve been here, we’ve been here before. We’ve been here before. Now, it’s time to get it fixed. We’ve got to get it fixed and get back to playing football the way we know how to play, we’ve played before. We can and we will.”
