There is a stunning new favorite for the Dallas Cowboys head coaching vacancy: current offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.

According to the latest odds at DraftKings, via Pro Football Talk, Schottenheimer leads the way at -250 with the latest odds. Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore was the favorite but is now listed at +250. The odds have since been taken down, as Pro Football Talk reports has happened several times due to the volatility of the market.

Schottenheimer just wrapped up his second season as the Cowboys’ OC following a year as a coaching analyst. He’s been coaching since 1997 and is the son of the late Marty Schottenheimer.

Brian’s had stops with the St. Louis Rams, Kansas City Chiefs, Syracuse, USC, the then-Washington Redskins, then-San Diego Chargers, New York Jets, Georgia, Indianapolis Colts, Seattle Seahawks and Jacksonville Jaguars.

He’s been an OC with the Chargers, Jets, Rams, Georgia and Seahawks. Brian Schottenheimer would be a first-time head coach if he was internally promoted by the Cowboys.

As a player, Schottenheimer was a quarterback at the University of Florida and backed up Danny Wuerffel and was a member of the 1996 national championship team. He went into coaching the following year.

From Deion Sanders to Moore to now Schottenheimer in terms of the odds, the Cowboys coaching search has taken some wild turns.

“They are in their own little category,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter said Sunday. “Because it doesn’t seem like they are in on the other candidates. Now, they could always call about Aaron Glenn, we’ll see if they do… The Dallas Cowboys, I think, are moving at their own pace in their own universe, doing what they do. We wait to see where that brings them. But it feels like the other five teams are in on the Lions coordinators and the Cowboys are operating in their own universe.”

Schefter said this during ESPN’s Postseason NFL Countdown, having a graphic of six names the Cowboys were involved with. The likes of Moore and Robert Saleh were included, two coaches who have conducted interviews. Sanders is the flashy name while Leslie FrazierAnthony Lynn, and Jason Witten are there as well.

While five teams are battling to sign one of Aaron Glenn or Ben Johnson, the Cowboys are not in the race at all.
