The No. 8 Ohio State Buckeyes will host the No. 9 Tennessee Volunteers and the odds are in for this first round College Football Playoff matchup.

Both teams fell short of winning the Big Ten and SEC, respectively. Now, they’ll square off in Columbus for a chance to take on No. 1 Oregon in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.

According to FanDuel, Ohio State opened up as a 6.5 point favorite over Tennessee. The total was set at 47.5 points. As soon as more matchups were announced and lines were adjusted, the line for this game moved to Ohio State (-7.5).

Ohio State and Tennessee certainly had different moods coming into the playoff. Buckeyes coach Ryan Day had to work hard to erase the disappointment of losing to Michigan for the fourth straight year.

“Well we’ve got a lot in front of us,” Day said days after the Michigan loss. “And as much as this hurts, we’ve got a chance to go play for a national championship and when the dust settles, here we are. And we don’t just turn around after a day and say ‘We’re on to the next thing.’ That’s not going to happen. But, we’ve come in here, had some meetings. We’re going to get out on the field today, move around a little bit.”

He likened the situation to that of an NFL wildcard team getting into the playoffs, getting a first win, and getting hot and running to the Super Bowl.

On the flip side of Ohio State is Tennessee and Josh Heupel. They’re ready to play anybody and at least they now know their opponent.

“There’s a lot of football to be played yet,” Heupel said during his National Signing Day press conference on Monday. “But if you’re not of the mindset going into this thing, anyone, anywhere, anytime, then you’re just there to have a cup of coffee anyway …

“We control what we control, right? We don’t have a game before the final rankings come out … This is a highly competitive group. We’ll play where we play. We’ll play who we play, and it’s going to be put the ball down (and play).”
