After going undrafted, Jamarion Sharp, a 7’5 prospect, has found his way into a contract in the NBA.

Per Jon Chepkevich at DraftExpress, Sharp has signed a deal with the Dallas Mavericks. He will now join the Mavs at summer league and compete for them in Las Vegas in hopes of proving himself there.

Sharp spent last season at Ole Miss after transferring in from Western Kentucky. He also spent two seasons at a junior college in John A. Logan College in Illinois.

Over five collegiate seasons, Sharp averaged 6.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 4.1 blocks per game.

That included a pair of seasons with the Hilltoppers where Sharp was an All-CUSA Selection. In 64 games in Bowling Green, which is just an hour west of his hometown of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, he posted 7.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 4.4 blocks while shooting 67.9% from the field. That made him All-Conference USA once as well as a two-time selection on Conference USA’s All-Defensive Team and as Conference USA’s Defensive Player of the Year.

Sharp’s final season with the Rebels then didn’t fully translate in the SEC. In 31 games, including half off of the bench, he put up career-lows of 3.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks on 59.4% shooting from the field.

If nothing else, Sharp’s size is something that you just don’t come across often. That, along with his college resumé, has now earned him his chance at the league which, as of these reports, will begin in Dallas, this season’s runner-up in the association.

Flanigans have ‘fingers crossed’ to get NBA opportunity this week

The entire Flanigan family is keeping its collective fingers crossed this week

The two-day 2024 NBA Draft opens on Wednesday. Now-former Ole Miss wing Allen Flanigan is obviously hoping to hear his name called. But, really, he just wants an opportunity. Any opportunity.

“He’s getting a few frequent-flyer miles right now,’ his father, Wes Flanigan, said last week.

“He’s got maybe four or five workouts planned before the draft. He’s just trying to put his best foot forward and see what happens from that point. He’ll have a chance to do some things. Being here with Coach Beard and this program and this staff has prepared him for the moment he’s in right now.”

Allen Flanigan and Matthew Murrell each took part in the NBA G-League Elite Camp back in May. Flanigan also went to the Portsmouth Invitational with Jamarion Sharp.

Flanigan exhausted his final year of eligibility after just one season with the Rebels. He transferred to Ole Miss following four seasons at Auburn. Flanigan topped the Rebels in rebounding (6.1 per game) and was second in scoring (14.8 ppg).

“I’m his father so I’m a little biased,” Wes Flanigan said. “I watched him for five years in the SEC and there’s been a lot of guys that’s been drafted ahead of him.”
