South Carolina is set to host Ole Miss in a hugely important contest for both teams, and it figures to be one of the most interesting SEC offerings on Oct. 5.

The Gamecocks are coming off a bye week, which should afford them extra time to prepare for a potent Rebels offense.

According to lines listed by FanDuel, Ole Miss opens as a 9.5-point favorite over South Carolina. The over/under point total for the contest has been set at 53.5 points.

That sets the expectation going into the game: Ole Miss is the clear favorite, but not by such a large margin that an upset seems out of the question. Especially with the extra rest for South Carolina.

South Carolina is just a hair away from 4-0 going into this game, having let a close contest against LSU slip away in the waning moments. But the point is clear: The Gamecocks can play.

They’ll have their hands full against the Rebels, to be sure, but the Gamecocks are riding a wave of confidence they haven’t always had.

Quarterback LaNorris Sellers should also have gotten some additional time to rest and recuperate, which could be huge for his potential going forward. He’s been very good so far this season.

On the other side, Ole Miss has had an electric offense, led by quarterback Jaxson Dart. Dart is already approaching 2,000 yards passing not even halfway through the season. And Ole Miss’ pace is tough to contend with.

But the Rebels aren’t exactly one-dimensional, either. Running backs Henry Parrish and Matt Jones have formed a nice one-two punch in the backfield.

Receivers Tre Harris and Juice Wells might be one of the best combinations in the nation, while tight end Caden Prieskorn is also capable of a breakout game at any point. That’s a lot to deal with offensively.

In any case, it figures to be a compelling contest between Ole Miss and South Carolina.
