Every time the Olympics come around, different athletes become celebrities thanks to their performances. This year, that included women’s rugby star Ilona Maher. She’s made such a name for herself that she even caught the attention of Tom Brady.

Maher and Brady were both in attendance at the Eiffel Tower Stadium for beach volleyball. There, the two met and made a point of taking a selfie together.

Maher, who is active on Instagram, made sure to post the two meeting and taking a selfie together and it can be viewed, here:

In the video of the two taking a selfie together Maher once again proves that she has a good sense of humor about herself, joking that Brady was the one who wanted to take a selfie with her and not the other way around, finishing the video with a quick “just kidding.”

Tom Brady is, of course, the GOAT of NFL quarterbacks. At the Olympics, though, he’s just one of many GOATs in their respective sports. That includes stars like Simone Biles, Noah Lyles, and LeBron James who are currently representing the United States.

Ilona Maher has become a sensation in her own sport of rugby. That, largely, started with the run she made in one of the team’s early games where she stiff-armed an opponent into the ground on a breakaway run. That caught the attention of everyone, including NFL stars like Derrick Henry.

“Oh yeah, she got it,” Henry said of Maher. “Mindset. Running strong and hard, not trying to go down, getting to the end zone by any means.”

The attention on Maher and USA rugby only grew when the women won the bronze medal in rugby sevens. It helped the group land a $4 million donation to prepare for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles while bringing attention to the sport.

“I think we all can say we were so grateful because I think we really believe we deserve it, and we got this medal to prove that we deserve it, because before our last tournament it was kind of like, ‘We need to get a medal or we might not have a program next year,’” Ilona Maher explained. “Our coach genuinely told us that. So we took that on because we’re trying to make this program better for the next people.”

The goal is to improve for the future. For now, though, Maher is making sure to celebrate in Paris with other stars, like Brady.
