Olympic sprinter Fred Kerley had an incredible 2024, where he was able to capture a bronze medal for the United States at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in France.

However, his 2025 isn’t off to the best start. According to TMZ Sports, Kerley was tased and arrested in Miami late Thursday evening. The run-in with the star athlete took place at around 11:22 PM, per the Miami Beach Police Department, as they were involved in “an active police scene.”

Per TMZ Sports, the officers wrote in their incident report that the Olympian had approached them with “an aggressive demeanor,” as he was expressing concern about his car that was parked nearby: “Body cam footage shows as officers attempted to sort out the situation, Kerley became argumentative,” TMZ reported. “Seconds later, he appeared to push a cop.”

All told, the shove turned the situation into a volatile one. The former Texas A&M Aggies athlete was then wrestled to the ground by officers, but he fought back. That’s when one officer deployed his taser, which appeared to then allow officers to gain control and handcuff Kerley, TMZ noted.

According to the police records via TMZ, Kerley was booked at 4:07 AM on Friday, Jan. 3. Three charges were associated with the Olympian, including battery on a police officer.

Moving forward, he’s expected to face a judge over the matter soon, TMZ reported. In addition to his bronze medal from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in France, Kerley also has a silver medal from his performance in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

At 29 years old, it remains to be seen if Fred Kerley will compete at the 2028 Olympic Games. Those will be held right here in the United States, with Los Angeles, California chosen as the site for the worldwide phenomenon.
