Orange Bowl odds: Early point spread released for Notre Dame vs. Penn State, How to Watch
Notre Dame will match up with Penn State in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 9 following their respective College Football Playoff wins in the quarterfinal round.
Now that the Orange Bowl is set, so has the early odds and point spread.
Notre Dame (-122) has opened as a 1.5-point betting favorite over Penn State (+102), according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
The initial over/under point spread for the Orange Bowl has been set at 46.5.

Penn State will wind up getting an extra two days of rest, playing in the Fiesta Bowl against Boise State on Jan. 30. It’s now two wins in the postseason for head coach James Franklin after taking down SMU in Happy Valley to kickoff the CFP run.
Since a national championship game was introduced in college football, Penn State has not participated in one. The program has not hoisted the sport’s ultimate trophy since 1986, hoping to break a near four decade drought.
A win in Miami would make history for the Nittany Lions but of course, the ultimate goal is to win it all. Two more wins are required, beginning with Notre Dame on Jan. 9.

As for the Fighting Irish, there has been plenty of off-field adversity to fight through. The city of New Orleans experienced an act of terrorism, causing for the Sugar Bowl to be delay. Notre Dame wound up taking down Georgia nearly 24 hours after the original scheduled kickoff time.
Similar the Penn State, Notre Dame has been a program looking to breakout for quite some time. Their national championship drought is two years longer than their Orange Bowl counterparts, going all the way back to 1988.
Marcus Freeman has been building something special in South Bend and has cashed in with two great CFP performances.
The all-time series between these two big-time programs is currently tied 9-9-1. You have to go back to 2007 to find the last matchup, being the latter game of a home-and-home series.
Jan. 9 will be a great tiebreaker and easily being the most important matchup they have ever played.
