The Packers secondary likely will receive a boost for Sunday’s key matchup against the Chiefs at Lambeau Field. Safety Darnell Savage, finally, is back on the active roster.

The Packers made the move, Saturday. His official status for Sunday’s game is questionable. But Savage participated in three full practices this week. Given that, Green Bay likely wouldn’t have elected to move Savage to the active, 53-man roster if he couldn’t play.

The Packers placed Savage on IR back in late October after he reaggravated a calf injury against the Broncos. Back then, Green Bay believed he could be available by their Thanksgiving road game against the Lions. Instead, it should be for its home game against the Chiefs, the defending Super Bowl champions. You need a healthy secondary to contend with Patrick Mahomes.

The Packers selected Savage in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. He’s been a fixture in the secondary since his arrival.

While Savage is expected back, coach Matt LaFleur already confirmed that top running back Aaron Jones still won’t be able to play, Sunday. He sprained the medial collateral ligament in his knee on Nov. 19 when the Packers beat the Chargers. Plus, cornerback Eric Stokes is unlikely to play against the Chiefs. The Packers listed him as doubtful after Friday’s final practice of the week.

In addition, Packers GM Brian Gutekunst announced that he was moving fullback Henry Pearson and running back James Robinson from the practice squad to the active roster.
