Packers coach Matt LeFleur is seeing 'a lot of good things' from Jordan Love at OTAs
It’s Jordan Love’s turn to take the helm of the Green Bay Packers, with the franchise finally moving on from Aaron Rodgers. And as the fourth-year quarterback got to work during optional team activities (OTAs), head coach Matt LeFleur reviewed the early returns.
And so far, so good. There’s of course ample room for growth with the young quarterback, but LeFleur likes what he has seen so far.
“A lot of good things and a lot to clean up,” LeFleur said, according to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky.
LeFleur also added that the surrounding cast needs to breaking in, too.
“We’ve got to see what everybody else around him can do, too,” LeFleur said.
While Love under center signals a stark new era in Green Bay, plenty of other players around him are relatively new. Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson are both on their rookie deals, as is running back AJ Dillon. Star running back Aaron Jones is the most experienced playmaker, and he’s entering Year 7.
And on defense, the Packers are young and dripping with talent. From 2023 first round pick Lukas Van Ness to third-year cornerback Eric Stokes coming back off an injury, the Packers have the pieces to field a top-flight defense if the dominoes fall right.
All told, Green Bay has the pieces to be a stable operation and if Love is competent, they can be competitive. And if he’s anything above that, Packers fans can start to get excited about another quarterback reigning in Lambeau for years to come.
One Packers assistant is encouraged by Love so far
Quarterbacks coach Tom Clements opted to return to Green Bay for yet another season after contemplating retirement last offseason.
The 69-year-old assistant coach came back to work with Rodgers in his final season with the Packers, and now, he’ll see Love developed into the team’s starter, hopefully for the long term.

“I came back and enjoyed it, enjoyed working with Jordan and the other quarterbacks,” Clements said, via Packers.com. “Any time you can coach a guy and you think you can help him, and it looks like you’ve helped him a little bit, that’s gratifying.”
Since opting to return to coaching the game, Clements has watched Love eagerly work to expand his skill set.
“He did the things that I’ve done throughout my coaching career as far as working on the fundamentals of the game, working on the footwork. That’s really a big aspect of playing quarterback,” Clements said.
“Last year during the season he would know the game plan in and out. He was always ready to go in there, so once you install it and talk about it, he digested it very well.”
