Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy is disappointed Green Bay was passed over to host the 2024 NFL Draft. On Monday, the NFL announced Detroit would be the city honored with hosting the grand event.

Afterwards, Murphy released a statement regarding Green Bay not being selected as the host of the 2024 NFL Draft.

“The Packers and the event’s community supporters remain optimistic that Green Bay will have the opportunity to host the NFL Draft in the near future,” wrote Murphy. “We will continue to work with Discover Green Bay and our other partners in the effort to update our bid details and continue our dialogue with NFL officials so they remain excited about our community’s plan to host this significant event. The NFL Draft would draw fans to the area from around the country and proudly display the NFL’s storied history to football fans around the world, while highlighting the uniqueness of Green Bay.”

Evidently, Murphy was more than hopeful Green Bay would get to host the event. One of the historic sites in the story of the game, the city could’ve used the draft for numerous reasons. However, it wasn’t meant to be for 2024.

Now, the Packers and Green Bay will have to wait until 2025 at the earlier to host the event. As Murphy writes, the Packers will continue to work with the NFL in hopes of receiving the honor in the future. However, that won’t lessen the sting Green Bay is feeling today, being passed over for the 2024 NFL Draft for Detroit.

More on 2024 NFL Draft, Detroit

On Monday, the City of Detroit was gifted the honor of being chosen to host the 2024 NFL Draft.

The NFL, Detroit Lions and various media outlets announced the news on Monday. To mark the occasion, the Lions put together a hype video featuring scenic views of the city, and the words of Lions legend Barry Sanders.

“Believe me now? The pick is Detroit,” exclaimed Sanders, revealing the draft is coming to Detroit.

Moreover, hosting the NFL Draft has become a huge honor for cities harboring NFL franchises. After decades where the event was held at New York City, the NFL decided to branch out. Since, the draft has been held in Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, Nashville and Cleveland. In-between, it was held in Roger Goodell’s basement — but that’s one the world would like to put behind us.

This year, the 2022 NFL Draft is being held in Las Vegas. After, Kansas City was chosen to host the 2023 NFL Draft. Finally, 2024 will now be Detroit’s year — chosen to host the 2024 Draft on Monday.
