On his final offensive snap of the season, Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love through an interception. In the middle of a playoff game, he was trying to make a play and threw the ball across his body into coverage, getting picked.

After the game, Love explained what happened on that play, admitting that he committed a mortal sin in the process.

“Play broke down, scrambling right,” Love said. “Saw Christian [Watson] over the middle. Tried to force one into him. Thought I could make the play. Didn’t see the back side. So, really made a great play.”

Quarterbacks are taught never to throw across their bodies, especially when they’re putting the ball late over the middle of the field. It does happen all the time, but it’s dangerous, giving the defense time to recover and taking tons of arm strength to try and complete.

“I haven’t looked at it yet. Haven’t looked at any pictures, so. Looking back on it, yeah, throw it away. I don’t know if I had an opportunity to be able to run, maybe get out of bounds but, you know, force it across the middle late, which is a mortal sin and it cost us,” Love said.

“So, it’s something I’ll look at. That’s an area right there I’ll be able to look at, grow from, and get better in the future.”

After rapidly improving throughout his first season as the starting quarterback for the Packers, Jordan Love didn’t want to have his season end on a mortal sin like the one he committed. However, with Nick Bosa in his face and desperately needing points, it’s also easy to see why Love forced the ball in that situation.

It’s a lesson to learn for Jordan Love. He’ll do that and, hopefully, not make it again.

Todd McShay dunks on Mel Kiper using Packers QB Jordan Love

There is a lot of healthy competition between NFL Draft analysts like Todd McShay and Mel Kiper Jr., particularly as it pertains to players they disagree about. That includes Jordan Love, who the two debated ahead of his draft.

During the playoff game, McShay made sure to let Kiper know that it looks like he was right about Love.

“As I sit down to watch Packers-49ers, I can’t help but wonder, @MelKiperESPN , do you still think I I’m crazy for ranking Jordan Love as QB3 (one spot ahead of Justin Herbert) in the 2020 NFL draft?” McShay posted. “Enjoy the game, bud!”
