Malik Willis earned the start under center for the Green Bay Packers on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts for the injured Jordan Love. It didn’t take him long to find the end zone for his first touchdown pass.

After usuing his duel threat abilities to march the Packers down the field, he stood tall in a collapsing pocket on third down and found Dontayvion Wicks along the sideline for the 14-yard touchdown strike.

The touchdown throw pushed the lead to 10-0 against the Colts in the first quarter as the Packers seek their first win of the 2024-25 season.

Willis, a new member of the Green Bay roster, is entering his third season in the NFL after being a third-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Liberty. Tennessee did give him an opportunity to play as a rookie, playing in eight games and starting three of them. Just one win came from those starts.

Eleven total games are on Willis’ resume, throwing for 350 yards, no touchdowns, and three interceptions. There was some success on the ground as a dual-threat guy, rushing for 144 yards and a touchdown on 32 carries. He was traded to the Packers during the offseason after the Titans decided that Will Levis would be their QB1 moving forward.

It’s unclear how long Willis will be the Packers’ starter, as Love is expected to miss anywhere from three-six weeks following his injury.
