Panthers head coach Frank Reich is giving up play-calling duties after the team’s 0-6 start. Moving forward, offensive coordinator Thomas Brown will take over that responsibility.

On Monday, Reich revealed that Brown will take over the offensive play-calling for the remainder of the season. Rookie quarterback Bryce Young is looking forward to the shift.

“We were always working toward that,” Young said, per the team’s website. “He made that known far before the season started. We didn’t necessarily have a timeline, but we always knew that this was coming. I’m super excited. I’m excited for the future.”

Carolina dropped to 0-6 following a 42-21 loss to Miami on Sunday. The Panthers jumped out to an early 14-0 lead but gave up five consecutive touchdowns to the Dolphins before finally reaching the end zone again.

Young completed 23-of-38 passes for 217 yards with a touchdown in the loss.

“It’s always been a part of the plan. Something Thomas and I have discussed since he was hired,” Reich told reporters on Monday regarding the switch. “I’m excited for this for Thomas. I’m excited for our team and our offense. Thomas is a stud. He’s a great leader. He’s a brilliant offensive mind.

“We all have a lot of confidence in him. I think the timing is right. Really been thinking about it hard the past couple of weeks. Kind of knew and was leaning this way, but here we are. Excited to turn it over to Thomas and know he’s going to do a great job for our team.”

Carolina has a bye week before hosting the Houston Texans (3-3) on Sunday, Oct. 29.

Panthers QB Bryce Young opens up on 0-6 start

Young’s rookie season has been anything but a joyride. The former Alabama standout is part of a team that is going through some growing pains and is the only remaining NFL team without a win.

Following Sunday’s loss to the Dolphins, Young opened up on the struggles of playing for a losing team.

“It’s tough. Love this team, believe in this team; I’m blessed and happy to be a part of this team. And obviously, it’s not where we want to be, hasn’t been what we wanted,” Young said, per the team’s website. “It’s tough, but we’ve got to keep building, keep growing, trying to find things to continue to improve on, things that we’ve had. We’ve got to expand on it. We’ve got to keep building on the positives, and then, obviously, a lot to clean up.”
