Carolina Panthers general manager Dan Morgan is ready to see what Bryce Young can do in his second year in the NFL. On Monday, Morgan spoke to reporters about the 2024 season and was asked about what he expects to see from Young this fall.

“I want Bryce to be the best version of himself,” Morgan said, per Panthers reporter Kassidy Hill. Morgan went on to say that regardless of the expectations, Morgan believes Young can be the player he scouted in college.

Young, who was selected by the Panthers at No. 1 overall last year had a tough rookie season. The 22-year-old quarterback threw for 2,877 yards, 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while winning just two games in 16 starts. The Panthers’ struggles led to the team promoting Morgan to general manager after serving as assistant general manager for three seasons.

Improvement at the quarterback position will be key to the Panthers’ success in 2024, but Morgan knows production on the offensive and defensive lines will take them far.

“We want to be able to dominate both sides of the ball at the line of scrimmage, and I think that’s what it takes to win in this league,” Morgan said. “We obviously didn’t do that well enough last year on the offensive side of the ball, and bringing those two guys in, moving Corbett to center, adding those pieces. Obviously, we love those guys, and we feel good. But we’ve got to go prove it on the field now.”

Bryce Young talks ‘strict’ NFL

Young joined the Panthers after having a memorable career with the Alabama Crimson Tide. In his college career, Young led Alabama to a national championship in 2020 and he won the Heisman Trophy the following season after throwing for 4,872 yards and 47 touchdowns.

In September, Young spoke to WCNC Charlotte about the biggest surprise once he got to the NFL. “I feel like you build a thought of what you think things are going to look like, he said. “But you know, one of the biggest things is just how efficient we are with everyone’s time and the respect that everyone gets. There’s always an emphasis of how strict things are the higher level you get. When you’re playing youth football, people always talk about, ‘It’s going to be this amount of strictness.’ There’s such a sense of accountability because people understand the consequences of not playing well.”
