Amid a difficult first season, Carolina Panthers head coach Frank Reich says that he’s not worried about quarterback Bryce Young‘s mentality.

The Panthers took Young first overall to be the future of the franchise. However, after a 1-9 start it would be easy for his confidence to be shaken. However, Reich says that his mental toughness is one of the best things about the young quarterback.

“I don’t because of who he is as a person,” Frank Reich said. “That’s one thing that was clear in the draft process, that his mental toughness and character, to me, is unquestioned. Nobody’s perfect, right? We all have weaknesses. We all struggle at times mentally. All of us do — even the most confident guys, the best players in the world. Everybody does, and I’m sure Bryce has his struggles. But I also believe he’s got an inner strength that’s helped him get to where he’s gotten to.”

Through 10 games, Carolina is just 1-9. For his part, Bryce Young in nine games played has completed 62.1 percent of passes for 1,683 yards. He also has just nine touchdown passes to eight interceptions.

“Even though we all know he’s won a lot of games in high school and college, I think he’s made to handle stuff like this, and I don’t think he’ll accept it. And I think he’ll continue to elevate his game and elevate this team. And it might just take – it’s taken longer than we all wanted it to. But I can tell you this: It’s not on his shoulders. We all have a part of it. Every person has a part of it – player and coach – so we handle it collectively.”

Reich acknowledged that there’s been a lot of change in Carolina and the franchise is dealing without. However, he also knows the team needs to keep working to get better.

“We had the change here that we had,” Reich said. “You start to set things in place to make a change, and you want it to happen overnight. Sometimes it takes longer than you want. But you have to keep your head down, be strong-willed, keep the vision clear and come to work every day, and you’ve got to be able to fight your way through the tough times.”

Next up for Carolina is a trip to play the Tennessee Titans.

Micah Parsons calls for patience with Bryce Young amid struggles

Bryce Young recently got a call for patience coming from a relatively unlikely source, Dallas Cowboys star edge rusher Micah Parsons. Amid those early season struggles, Parson called for patience in Young’s development.

“And I seen a lot of conversation with people bashing Bryce Young because he’s 1-8. Do they regret not taking CJ Stroud? Absolutely not. Let Bryce Young develop. I think CJ Stroud may have went into a little bit better situation. There’s not a lot in Carolina right now. Their offensive line hasn’t been the best. Their running game hasn’t been the best. The receivers haven’t really been the best,” Parsons said.

“So I don’t think we should just throw away Bryce just yet. I think we should let him get a couple years, give him that same grace as we did everybody else. Even guys like Trevor Lawrence who struggled their first year, look how well he’s doing. He grew, he grew. You got to build a team that supports him and around him. Give him time, let him break out. I think Bryce Young will have his breakout year, it’s just not this year.”
