Panthers re-sign former LSU star defensive back to three-year deal
The Panthers are bringing back former LSU defensive back Donte Jackson. On Saturday, Carolina announced they’ve retained Jackson — inking the cornerback to a three-year deal.
“The Panthers are staying busy, and they got a captain back in the fold on Saturday,” wrote the franchise. “Cornerback Donte Jackson agreed to terms on a new three-year contract, a significant boost for a defense which was leaning young.
“At 26, Jackson is the elder of the cornerback room, as none of the other players at his position are older than 25. Bringing him back will be significant for the development of the group that includes Jaycee Horn, CJ Henderson, Keith Taylor Jr., and others.”
Since being drafted by the Panthers in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Jackson has blossomed into one a staple in the Carolina secondary. Additionally, the former LSU star has become one of the team’s leaders, becoming a captain last season.
Moreover, Jackson was a four-star recruit coming out of high school, according to On3 Consensus. He chose LSU over a litany of offers, including Georgia, Notre Dame and Texas A&M.
Over the course of his NFL career, Donte Jackson has accumulated 209 total tackles, 38 pass deflections, 12 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles. Now, he’ll be looking to add to his impressive resume over the next three years with Carolina.

Furthermore, Donte Jackson isn’t the only young star the Panthers signed long-term in recent days. Additionally, DJ Moore became an even-richer man, inking a huge extension with Carolina.

Moore signed a four-year extension to stay with the Panthers, the team announced Friday. He was getting ready to play on his fifth-year option in 2022, but is now signed through the 2025 season. Carolina didn’t disclose his salary, but ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported it’s a $61.884 million deal with $41.61 million guaranteed.
The No. 24 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Moore has had quite a start to his career with the Panthers. He has 301 receptions for 4,313 yards and 14 touchdowns during his four-year NFL career. This past season, he totaled 93 receptions for 1,157 yards and four touchdowns as Carolina went 5-12.
The Panthers drafted Moore after a three-year career at Maryland from 2015-17. With the Terrapins, he had 146 receptions for 2,027 yards and 17 touchdowns before entering the draft.
Now, the Panthers have a nice nucleus of young play-makers on their roster. Still, the team is looking for answers at quarterbacks, swinging and missing on Deshaun Watson this offseason.
