Panthers release LB K’Lavon Chaisson ahead of season-opener vs. Saints
The Carolina Panthers have released veteran linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson days before the team kicks off the 2024 season against the New Orleans Saints. Chaisson signed with the Panthers in March after spending his first four seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Chaisson was selected by the Jaguars at No. 20 overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. He played college football at LSU where he helped the team win a national championship in 2019. In 57 career NFL games, Chaisson has posted 73 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, five sacks and two passes defended.
In July, Chaisson spoke to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 about starting fresh with the Panthers. “I’m real appreciative because it’s everything I could have asked for from a fresh start,” he said. “It’s a true opportunity to establish an identity for a team, city and culture, so it’s everything I could ask for.”
Chaisson, a Houston native, also talked about the type of player the Panthers are getting. “They’re getting a complete player and they’re getting a winner,” Chaisson said. “That’s the most important thing is the W column. I got used to winning in high school and college. It’s a mindset and acknowledgment of the grind it takes to reach a certain level and make a certain impact. It’s about competition.”

What does K’Lavon Chaisson’s release mean for Panthers?
“They’re getting someone who is truly loyal and respects the game, a true rarity. All in all, they’re getting a complete player, a complete person and human that comes with it. I feel like I have every tool it takes to be a great player.”
Chaisson was expected to provide a pass rush for Jadeveon Clowney. He played in two games during the preseason and collected one tackle in 29 snaps. With the move, the Panthers have Clowney, DJ Johnson, Eku Leota and Jamie Sheriff as their outside linebackers.
The Panthers head into the 2024 season with hopes they can turn things around. The team hired Dave Canales as their head coach, and quarterback Bryce Young will be in his second season. The Panthers believe Young can learn a lot from Canales who helped Baker Mayfield have a huge season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year. Canales was the Bucs’ offensive coordinator, and the team reached the divisional round of the playoffs.
