Report: Panthers request to speak with Eagles' Alec Halaby for GM job
The Carolina Panthers have requested to speak with Eagles assistant GM Alec Halaby regarding their open GM job, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The Panthers recently parted ways with GM Scott Fitterer after finishing with a league-worst 2-15 record this season.
Halaby has spent the past 16 seasons in Philadelphia and was promoted to the assistant GM role in 2022. Prior to that, he was the team’s vice president of football operations and strategy. He has also been a special assistant to the general manager (2012-15) and player personnel analyst (2010-11) at various points in his tenure after beginning as an intern in 2007.
Halaby has focused on player evaluation, roster management and resource allocation in his time with the Eagles. He was a member of the staff during the team’s Super Bowl victory in 2017 and helped lead Philadelphia to the big game once again in 2022, where it lost to Kansas City.
The Panthers aren’t the only team that Halaby has received interest from. The Washington Commanders are also reportedly requested an interview with him regarding their head of football operations position. Given his track record with the Eagles, it seems he has put himself in position to continue to climb the ladder.
Carolina could certainly use some help in the front office given the way things have gone this season. The Panthers don’t have their first-round draft pick, which they traded to Chicago this offseason to draft quarterback Bryce Young.

Young finished the year with 2,877 yards, 11 touchdowns, 10 interceptions and a 59.8% completion percentage. Some can call it Fitterer’s mistake to draft Young over Stroud, but that’d be hindsight. Either way, Carolina will hope that whoever ends up taking the job can find more success and dig them out of the hole they find themselves in.
Panthers request to interview Bengals OC Brian Callahan for head coaching vacancy
The Carolina Panthers have requested to interview Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan for their head coaching position, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported. Callahan has spent the five years in Cincinnati and was part of the team’s run to the Super Bowl in the 2021 season.
The coach has 14 years of experience in the NFL and worked in a variety of roles for the Broncos, Lions and Raiders before joining the Bengals in 2019. He was an offensive assistant with Denver in 2015 when Peyton Manning led the team to a Super Bowl victory.
Prior to making the jump to the NFL, Callahan was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Junipero Serra (CA) High School. He entered the coaching ranks in 2006 at his alma mater of UCLA, where he was a walk-on quarterback (2002-05) and served as the team’s holder on PATs. He spent one season as a graduate assistant with the Bruins in 2006 and then worked with the receivers in 2007.
