Panthers turn back to Bryce Young vs. Bears
The Carolina Panthers brought in Bryce Young to play quarterback during the game against the Chicago Bears on Sunday. When Young entered the game, the Panthers were down 36-10 late in the fourth quarter and had no chance of getting the win.
Andy Dalton started at QB on Sunday and finished his day completing 18 of 28 passes for 136 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception. He was named the starting QB on Sept. 16 after the Panthers lost their first two games of the year with Young as the starter.
“I just owe it to all the guys, the coaches, the staff, the players, everybody involved to be really critical about what we put on film, about what I’m seeing and to make sure that I’m constantly making the best decision for the team every week,” Panthers head coach Dave Canales said at the time, per the Panthers official website. “And it happens to be the quarterback position and so it’s loaded that way, but it’s every position and it’s all the guys. And I was able to stand in front of the team and challenge all the guys that we all have to step up our passion for what we’re doing to play.”
In Young’s two games this year, he completed just 55.4 percent of his passes for 245 yards, no touchdowns and three interceptions with a 44.1 passer rating. In his limited action against the Bears, the Alabama Crimson Tide alum completed four of his seven passes for 58 yards.

Bryce Young reacts to being Panthers’ backup QB
“There’s a lot of plays that, for last year and these first two games, for the most part, every snap hit my hands and I didn’t do enough with it at the end of the day,” Young said after the QB change was made. “I take accountability for that. There’s plays, there’s stuff, there’s a long list of things that I wish I was better at and I’m going to continue to work to grow and improve on and be better at.
“I’m always going to look in the mirror. Circumstances are what they are for, not just me, but for everyone. Everyone’s dealing with something, everyone has circumstances. If I went out there and played better and we won games, at the end of the day that falls on me. That didn’t happen and we wouldn’t be having this conversation.”
