Paramedics respond to apparent Tiger Woods incident at Riviera Country Club after withdrawing from Genesis
In one of the stranger withdrawals you’ll ever see on a golf course, Tiger Woods initially withdrew from the Genesis Invitational on Friday afternoon, due to an illness, according to an official release from PGA Tour officials. He was carted off the course by officials after only finishing six holes, before deciding to call it quits. However, shortly after the news broke on Friday, there were two fire trucks and an ambulance present at Riviera Country Club, the course where the Genesis Invitational is being played this weekend, according to several reporters.
Later on Friday evening, we learned that Woods was simply dehydrated and was feeling dizzy out on the course. Medical personnel administered an IV, and he didn’t end up needing to leave in an ambulance, Rob McNamara said via Barstool’s Daniel Rapaport.
He shot a 1-over par 72 in the first round on Thursday. Woods hit a beautiful flop shot onto the green on 13, but shanked a shot on the 18th hole into the trees.
In his post-round press conference, Woods was complaining about back spasms on the final few holes on Thursday.
He recently unveiled his new clothing line with TaylorMade, Sun Day Red on February 12th.
Woods, whose partnership with Nike ended last month, showed off the new Sun Day Red logo which will be present on all merchandise as part of his new partnership with TaylorMade. The new apparel line launches on May 1.
Woods, 48, played in just two events during the 2022-23 season. He made the cut at the 2023 Masters Tournament in April, but had to withdraw due to a foot injury. Woods also made it through all four rounds of The Genesis Invitational last February, finishing T45.

Since the Masters, Woods has undergone surgery on his right ankle and recently told reporters that he’s pain-free, at least as far as his ankle is concerned.
Woods, Nike part ways
Tiger Woods announced last month that he and Nike would be splitting up after 27 years together. If he’s joining a new brand or even creating one of his own, the timing would make sense.
“Over 27 years ago, I was fortunate to start a partnership with one of the most iconic brands in the world,” Woods said in a statement. “The days since have been filled with so many amazing moments and memories, if I started naming them, I could go on forever. Phil Knight’s passion and vision brought this Nike and Nike Golf partnership together and I want to personally thank him, along with the Nike employees and incredible athletes I have had the pleasure of working with along with way.
“People will ask if there is another chapter. Yes, there will certainly be another chapter. See you in LA!”
