Park Avenue Shooter update: Death count rises, more details emerge on shooting in NFL headquarters building

More details have been revealed regarding the shooter who opened fire inside the building that houses the NFL headquarters in Manhattan on Monday. Per authorities, four people, including an off-duty officer, were killed and one other person is critically wounded.
Identified as Shane Tamura, the 27-year-old reportedly began to open fire at around 6:30 p.m. before turning the gun on himself. He has a history of mental heath struggles, but no direct motive for the shooting is known. “We are working to understand why he targeted this particular location,” NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said in a news conference.
Mayor Eric Adams said that authorities are still “unraveling” the events that took place during the tragic incident. They have identified the officer who was killed as a 36-year-old immigrant named Didarul Islam from Bangladesh and was on the NYPD force for over three years. Tisch called him a hero.
However, some details have already been released. According to the report, surveillance video recorded a man exiting a BMW and walking toward the building while carrying an assault-style rifle. He “immediately” opened fire on the officer upon entry to the building. He shot a woman as she took cover before “spraying” gunfire across the lobby. He walked toward the elevator bank before shooting a security guard and another man. Officers later found a rifle case, revolver, magazines and ammunition in his vehicle.
The officer that was shot was pronounced dead after being taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center in Manhattan. According to the report, at least one civilian was brought to Bellevue Hospital.

The NFL employees inside the building were told to shelter in place during the shooting. The NFL HQ is located on floors 5-8 of the 44-floor building. The gunman was eventually found dead by a self-inflicted gunshot would on the 33rd floor.
In the aftermath of the incident, the New York Post obtained a photo that shows the gunman lying on the ground with the rifle by his side. His deceased body is blurred to hide the gruesome details of his suicide. However, they showed the blood-smeared assault-style rifle that was used in the attack.
Inside what appears to be a wallet was a concealed firearms permit belonging to Tamura. It was issued in Dec. 2022 and expires in 2027.
The NYPD first alerted civilians about the active shooting at 6:50 p.m. on social media. At 7:52 p.m., just over an hour later, Tisch confirmed on X that “the scene has been contained and the lone shooter has been neutralized.”
