The gunman who opened fire inside 345 Park Ave in Manhattan on Monday has been identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura, according to the New York Post. He is from Las Vegas.

Photos from outside of the building, which houses the NFL headquarters and an investing company called Blackstone, circulated around social media depicting the suspect appearing to casually walk up to the building with a rifle in-hand. Tamura reportedly began to open fire at around 6:30 p.m. before turning the gun on himself.

He killed at least four people including one police officer during the attack and injured several more. The number of victims are expected to grow, according to the report.

The New York Post obtained a photo that shows the gunman lying on the ground with the rifle by his side. His deceased body is blurred to hide the gruesome details of his suicide. However, they showed the blood-smeared assault-style rifle that was used in the attack.

Inside what appears to be a wallet was a concealed firearms permit belonging to Tamura. It was issued in Dec. 2022 and expires in 2027.

His motive is unknown as of this report, but the Post states that he was a “stand-out running back at a California high school.” He played high school football for Granada Hills Charter High School in LA. It’s unclear what he has been doing in the years since.

The identities of those killed and injured have not been released besides the shooter at the time of this report. According to the New York Post the police officer killed in duty was from the 47 Precinct, however, was working paid detail at the time for Rudin Properties, the company who owns the building. Photos from inside the building obtained by ABC7 show office workers at 345 Park Ave utilizing furniture to barricade themselves into their office space during the attack.

Initially, it was reported that one police officer and civilian were injured by gunfire during the incident. However, the New York Post reported that “at least four other people were shot and killed — and at least six others (were) injured” in the aftermath of the event. Their sources revealed that the numbers could rise as more information is released by local law enforcement.

The NYPD first alerted to the active shooting at 6:50 p.m. At 7:52 p.m., just over an hour later, NYPD Commissioner Jessica S. Tisch confirmed that “the scene has been contained and the lone shooter has been neutralized.”
