Parker Retzlaff fumes after being wrecked by Sam Mayer at Martinsville
In an overly aggressive move on a restart late in Stage 1, Sam Mayer sent Parker Retzlaff up the track and into the wall at Martinsville. This NASCAR Xfinity Series race is getting very chippy early on.
Parker Retzlaff started the race on the pole. He led 20 laps total today. With 7 laps to go in the first stage, Retzlaff didn’t get the launch he wanted. Mayer kept pushing him from behind and kept pushing through Turn 1.
Of course, Retzlaff went up the track and into the wall. It also caused Josh Williams to run into the rear of Mayer and Chandler Smith into the rear of Williams. Retzlaff took heavy damage and Mayer had slight damage to the right rear.
Parker Retzlaff was fuming on the radio. He couldn’t believe what Mayer did to him on the restart.
“He had my f***ing tires off the ground and he drove me through the Turn 1 wall,” Retzlaff told his team, via Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic.
After watching the replay, Retzlaff wasn’t as mad with Mayer. Williams did help lock everyone up going into the turn and likely contributed to the mess afterward. That won’t make Retzlaff’s 11th DNF any easier to handle.

Parker Retzlaff DNF for the 11th time in 2024
This season has been rough for Parker Retzlaff. He does not know exactly what he is doing in 2025. Retzlaff has earned Jordan Anderson Racing their first two pole awards ever this season. But that isn’t enough.
With 11 DNFs, Retzlaff has made mistakes. However, it feels like he just finds himself in the way when things go south. Or a moment like this happens. There have been times when Retzlaff has been racing up front and not been given the respect that he gives others.
In 2023, Retzlaff only had four DNFs. He is a talented driver and still young. But if you wreck cars 1/3rd of the time, you won’t have success and you likely won’t have people beating down your door to come race for them.
Parker Retzlaff had a great opportunity today. It is a shame that impatience got the better of him, and it wasn’t even his fault. Sure, he didn’t launch well, but to be run over like that is inexcusable.
