Pat Freiermuth scores second touchdown for the Steelers

Rookie tight end Pat Freiermuth has been showing just how dominant of a red-zone threat he can be for the Pittbsurgh Steelers tonight. He caught his second touchdown pass from quarterback Ben Roethlisberger earlier tonight. Below is the video courtesy of PFF.

Notice how he rotated his body spinning left to right, while bringing the football down in mid-air. Freiermuth has been turning heads for most of the summer, according to reports.

Pat Freiermuth Penn State career

It was a catch that displayed Freiermuth’s dominance in the red zone. While at Penn StateFreiermuth didn’t drop a single touchdown pass in the red zone in three years.

In his Penn State career, he set the school record for touchdown receptions by a tight end with 16. He finished his career with the Nittany Lions tied for eighth all-time in touchdown catches. The Massachusetts native tallied 1,185 career receiving yards during his time in Happy Valley — ranking him third among tight ends in program history. He finished his career catching a pass in 29 straight games–a school-record among tight ends. The 6-foot-5, 258-pounder hauled in 19 receptions of 20 or more yards in his PSU career.

High School Career

Freiermuth was one of the more highly touted tight end prospects in America coming out of The Brooks School (Andover, Massachusetts) earning a four-star rating from every major recruiting service–ESPNRivals.com, and 247sports.com. He was ranked as the number two player in the state of Massachusetts and the 13th best tight end in the country, according to 247sports.comESPN ranked him as the 6th best tight end in America. Rivals.com rated him as the 6th best tight end in the country.

He was a standout basketball player in high school as well, averaging a double-double as a sophomore.
