Pat McAfee makes surprising return at Wrestlemania
The WWE’s annual flagship event, WrestleMania, is often filled with surprise guest appearances. And on the first night of the two-part event, fans got a bombshell in the form of one former NFL athlete turned WWE super fan, Pat McAfee. You can check out McAfee’s surprise return in the video below.
The former star punter for the Indianapolis Colts was not in attendance as a commentator. No. He was there for a fight, and he got one with WWE superstar The Miz. The entire match was orchestrated by another superstar in attendance, Snoop Dogg, who is also the host of WrestleMania this year. Both The Miz and Snoop Dogg came down to the ring following the Smackdown Women’s Championship match between Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair. Once in the ring, the rap icon goaded the WWE superstar into issuing an open challenge to anyone in the back. And that’s when McAfee came down to accept The Miz’s challenge.
The Miz tried to back out of the match, but Snoop Dogg was having none of it. The WrestleMania host approved the match, making it official, despite the disapproval from his WWE superstar co-host.
In the matchup, McAfee went on the attack instantly, bombarding The Miz with a series of shots. The two-time WWE champion tried to escape the match by jumping over the railing but was stopped by another NFL superstar in attendance, San Francisco 49ers superstar tight end George Kittle. After a brief back-and-forth, resulting in the 49ers’ tight end hopping over the guardrail and clotheslining The Mizz, McAfee was back on the assault. The former Colts punter climbed to the top rope and delivered a Swanton bomb onto The Miz, who was standing but staggering out outside of the ring courtesy of the Kittle clothesline.

After landing the top rope acrobatic move, The Miz was tossed back into the ring, where things went from bad to worse for the WWE superstar. McAfee would hit a signature punt kick incapacitating his opponent. McAfee would then quickly pin The Miz for the 1-2-3 count and picked up the victory over the WWE superstar in their impromptu match.
Although it was a short match, it gave the fans in attendance and viewers across the globe an exciting mix of entertainment and action with athletes from different backgrounds. Most importantly, be created a great segue to the main event match of the night, which was a battle for the Undisputed Tag Team Championships between The Usos and their opponents, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens.
