It may be extraordinarily unlikely, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter could be teammates at the NFL level, after spending their college careers together at Jackson State and Colorado.

While Sanders figures to be the first quarterback off the board during the 2025 NFL Draft, and Hunter the top non-quarterback choice, stranger things have happened. A team could feasibly choose Sanders and then trade for another premium pick for Hunter or vice-versa, similar to how the Houston Texans ended up with CJ Stroud and Will Anderson during the 2023 NFL Draft.

It’ll take some smooth maneuvering, but Colorado offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur believes it would be worth it. Prior to his final game being able to coach both Sanders and Hunter in the same offense, the Buffaloes coach explained how keeping the duo together could be more than beneficial at the next level.

“If they could pull that off, good for them. That’s GM wizardry if you could pull that off,” Shurmur responded, regarding the possibility of Sanders and Hunter being united in the NFL after their time together in college. “I have a huge respect for both players. I’ve told all the pro scouts, If you need a quarterback, take Shedeur. If you don’t take him, you’re taking the second best guy, in my opinion. If you don’t need a quarterback and there are some teams that don’t need a quarterback, you should take Travis. To me it’s a very simple discussion.

“When I think of these two players, these are guys that have helped change the course of history for Colorado Buffalo football, along with Coach Prime. I just have a huge respect for them, and I think they’re just going to dominate the next level.”

Regardless, Sanders and Hunter seem primed to make an impact at the professional level. Whether they’re on the same team or not, success is in their future after what they’ve proven during their time in Jackson State and Colorado.

Pat Shurmur recognizes that, and so does a majority of NFL Draft pundits. Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter will be premium picks during the 2025 NFL Draft, and building blocks for the future of the league. It would be just even more awesome if they ended up with the same franchise, as well.
