Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid have responded to their AFC West rival Las Vegas Raiders’ attempt at trolling the three-time Super Bowl champion at the start of training camp Thursday.

A video emerged on X showing Raiders safety Trey Taylor holding a Kermit the Frog puppet dressed as Mahomes. Mahomes has often been compared to Kermit the Frog because of his voice, but it may not be wise for Taylor, a rookie at that, to take shots at the NFL‘s best player. In short, Mahomes will deal with that when he sees the Raiders twice this season, the first meeting coming in Week 8.

“It’s still early in the year,” Mahomes said, via Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team. “Stuff like that happens. It’ll get handled when it gets handled.”

Reid, meanwhile, isn’t paying any attention to what Las Vegas is doing, or what props they’re using. His focus is only on Kansas City and what they’re doing to get better.

“We don’t spend a lot of time here with puppets,” Reid told Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports. “We try to do our work and try to get better. That’s the important thing.”

Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs seeking revenge on Raiders in 2024

Mahomes and the Chiefs have largely dominated the Raiders since he came into the league in 2017. In 12 games against Las Vegas, Mahomes and the Chiefs have won 10 games, and he has thrown 30 touchdowns to just four interceptions with a 109.6 passer rating.

But in their last meeting, Christmas Day of the 2023 season, it was the Raiders’ day. Las Vegas went into Arrowhead Stadium and came out with a 20-14 victory. That would be Kansas City’s final loss of the campaign, as they would reel off six consecutive victories on their way to winning their third Super Bowl in the last five seasons.

That loss, however, stung at the time. Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce cited the defeat as the “turning point” in their season.

“We got our a** beat by the f***ing Raiders on Christmas. F*****g ruined Christmas,” Kelce said on the “Bussin’ With The Boys” podcast, per Sporting News. “[Antonio Pierce], he had those dudes ready to brawl out there on the field. 100% man. And I love that s–t. I was like, man if we play with that kind of edge, or that kind of toughness, that kind of like don’t f*** with us mentality, we won’t be stopped. And it just kind of ended up like that. But that Raiders game was definitely a turning point.”
