Patrick Mahomes on Chiefs reaching Super Bowl: 'We're not done yet'
Patrick Mahomes worked his magic once again late in the AFC Championship to send the Kansas City Chiefs to Super Bowl LVIII. Leading the Baltimore Ravens by a touchdown and facing third-and-9 with two minutes remaining, Mahomes lobbed up a deep pass for Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
The receiver secured the 32-yard catch, allowing Mahomes to take a knee on the next three downs to run out the clock in a 17-10 victory. Speaking with CBS’ Tracy Wolfson after the win, Mahomes explained the final play.
“They brought everybody,” he said. “They were gonna challenge us and the guys stepped up and made plays. God put a lot of adversity in our way this year and we accepted the challenge and we’re better for it. It’s been a heck of a year. We’re not done yet, but this is the way to get there.”
Mahomes finished the contest 30-of-39 passing for 241 yards and a touchdown. Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce also had 11 catches, 116 yards and a touchdown to surpass Jerry Rice for the most all-time postseason receptions.
Kansas City took a 17-7 lead into halftime. Its defense stepped up in the second half to force a fumble and interception while holding the Ravens to only a field goal. The interception came after Baltimore had managed to drive down to the Chiefs 25-yard line and was the Raven’s third turnover of the day.

The Super Bowl appearance is the fourth for the Chiefs in the past six seasons, including a win against Philadelphia last season. Kansas City faced more adversity on its journey to get there than in past seasons, having to win back-to-back games on the road in the playoffs.
“It’s been a heck of a year,” Mahomes said. “We’ve been underdogs for the last few games, but we never feel like underdogs. We’ve got a lot of guys on this team that know how to win, and when playoffs came around we knew we were gonna make it happen. Now we’re in the Super Bowl and the job’s not done. We’ve got to go out there to Vegas and play a great team and see if we can go out there and get the Super Bowl.”
If Mahomes were to lead the Chiefs to another Super Bowl, it would mark the third of his career. Kansas City will face the winner of the NFC Championship between the Lions and 49ers.
