Patrick Mahomes hits Xavier Worthy for 60-yard bomb at Chiefs training camp
Training camp began on Sunday for the Kansas City Chiefs, and offensive fireworks are already flying on the campus of Missouri Western State University.
On day one, quarterback Patrick Mahomes and rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy have already shown off their new-found chemistry, connecting on a 60-yard completion that went into the end zone.
Mahomes rolled out to his left on the play as he was being chased by defenders, set his hips and placed the 60-yard pass where only the speedy Texas alum could catch it, where he fell into the end zone upon its completion. Check out the highlight reel catch below:
After the play, Worthy celebrated in the end zone toward the excited crowd. Fellow offensive weapon Travis Kelce jumped out onto the field from the sidelines to do a little celebratory dance of his own.
This wasn’t the only highlight from a Mahomes-Worthy connection, either. A seperate play saw Worthy run a sort of flag route to the right numbers where the first-round draft choice made the diving grab with two defenders in his vecinity.
Of course, this type of playmaking ability is why the Chiefs decided to select Worthy with the No. 28 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. If his college career is anything to base that claim on, it’s certainly a strong start. At Texas, Worthy caught 26 touchdown passes in his collegiate career, which ranks third in school history. His career yardage of 2,755 ranks fourth. He caught 197 passes in his career, which ended up as sixth best in Longhorn history.

Not only that, but Worthy is the de facto fastest player in the NFL. He ran a 4.21-second time in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, which broke the all-time record which was set by John Ross.
As a first-round draft pick Worthy signed a a four-year, $13.79 million contract with a fifth-year option to play for the Kansas City Chiefs in the hopes of helping bring a third-straight Super Bowl home to KC.
That effort begins on Sunday in training camp, and Worthy is already making a strong first impression. Fans will be excited to see what he’s capable of throughout the preseason and into his rookie year in one of the most high-powered offenses in the league.
The first time fans will be able to see Worthy live in full Chiefs uniform will come on Aug. 10 on the road against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
