Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is dealing with an injury ahead of the AFC Championship game against the Buffalo Bills. The three-time Super Bowl champion QB was listed on the injury report with an ankle injury but was a full participant in practice.

Mahomes and the Chiefs are playing in their seventh consecutive AFC title game. In the last six conference championship games, the Chiefs have won four including the previous two.

This past weekend, the Chiefs defeated the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round playoff game 23-14. Mahomes did just enough in the victory, throwing for 177 yards and one touchdown on 16 of 25 passes.

NFL fans were critical of Mahomes for drawing two questionable 15-yard penalties during the win over Houston. But what irritated fans was when the two-time NFL MVP tried to draw a third penalty when he slowed down near the sideline and fell to the ground as soon as he was touched.

Patrick Mahomes doesn’t believe the Chiefs get favorable calls

In an interview with Carrington Harrison of 96.5 The Fan, Mahomes said the officials were right for not throwing the flag. “I would say the only one I felt like I probably did too much was the one on the sideline where I didn’t get the flag,” Mahomes said, per Pro Football Talk. “The refs saw it and it didn’t get a flag. I understood it immediately and know that I probably shouldn’t have done that.”

While speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Mahomes was asked if he believes the Chiefs get favorable calls from officials. “I don’t feel that way,” he said, per ESPN. “At the end of the day, the referees are doing their best to call the game as fair and as proper as they possibly can. And all you can do is go out there and play the game that you love as hard as you can and live with the results. … I think that’s what we preach here in Kansas City.

“You get new referees every year, you get new circumstances, and you never can really tell because every play’s different and that’s what makes the NFL so special. I feel like I’ve just continued to play the game, and I just try to win, and whatever happens kind of happens.”
