Patrick Mahomes injury update: Chiefs QB provides latest on high-ankle sprain
Kansas City Chiefs (13-1) quarterback Patrick Mahomes said Tuesday he is hopeful to play in this Saturday’s Week 16 home game against the Houston Texans (9-5), per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.
Mahomes sustained a high-ankle sprain in the 21-7 Week 15 road victory over the Cleveland Browns (3-11) and was ruled “week-to-week.” Head coach Andy Reid indicated that Mahomes will do some work in Tuesday’s practice, and they’ll see how it goes, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported.
“We’ll see how Pat does out there,” Reid said. “He’s going to go through some stuff, and we’ll see how it works out for him. And if he can’t work, then Carson will take those reps that Pat doesn’t. We have full confidence in Carson. If he has to step in and play, then I think everybody, coaches and players, have full confidence that he can go in and do a nice job.”
Mahomes was hit high and low and appeared to be sandwiched between defenders. He was later seen getting tape on his left ankle on the sideline prior to the next drive. Carson Wentz replaced him under center and finished out the game for Kansas City. Before exiting the game, Mahomes completed 19-of-38 passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns.

Patrick Mahomes suffers another ankle injury as playoffs near
Mahomes’ injury comes at a time where the Chiefs play three games in a span of 11 days. Kansas City host the Texans on Saturday before going on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers (10-4) on Christmas Day.
Mahomes previously rolled his ankle in the Week 9 home win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-6) on Nov. 4. The three-time Super Bowl champion did not miss any time. Mahomes played through a high-ankle sprain in the 2022 playoffs, a season which ended with the Chiefs hoisting the Lombardi Trophy.
