Patrick Mahomes is ready to do big things with Travis Kelce for the 2025 season. After learning that Kekce is returning to the Kansas City Chiefs this fall, Mahomes went to X/Twitter to share the meme of Michael Jordan‘s security guard John Michael Wozniak shugging in the ESPN docuseries The Last Dance.

On Thursday, Pat McAfee revealed on his self-titled show that Kelce sent him a message saying that he’s not retiring and is returning for his 13th NFL season. “I’m coming back, for sure,” Kelce told McAfee in a text that was read on-air. “Gonna try and get to the best shape I’ve been this offseason and get back to the mountaintop. Got a real bad taste in my mouth with how I played in that last game and how I got the guys ready for battle. I can’t go out like that!!!!”

After the Chiefs lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, there was speculation about Kelce’s future. The superstar tight end did not speak to the media after the game but opened up about his future on his New Heights podcast a few days later.

“The fact that we keep going to these AFC Championships and these Super Bowls, that means I’m playing an extra three [more] games than everybody else in the entire league,’’ Kelce said. “That’s a lot of wear and tear on your body and it’s a lot of time spent in the building, focusing on your craft, focusing on the task at hand, every challenge that you set up for yourself. That process can be grueling [and] it can weigh on you.”

Patrick Mahomes wasn’t sure if Travis Kelce would return

Patrick Mahomes spoke to reporters after the Super Bowl and said he wasn’t sure Kelce was going to return in 2025. “He’s given so much to this team and to the NFL,” Mahomes said, per PEOPLE. “And he’s been such a joy, not only for me to work with, but for people to watch.”

Mahomes added, “And he knows he still has a lot of football left in him,” stating that fans “can see it” because Kelce “always makes plays in the biggest moments.”

Travis Kelce did not have a strong showing in the Super Bowl, catching four passes for 39 yards in the 40-22 loss. But it was a productive year for the 35-year-old, tallying 97 passes for 823 yards and three touchdowns. Kelce was named to the Pro Bowl for the 10th consecutive year.
