Following his arrest for DWI this weekend, Patrick Mahomes Sr. was at risk of not being able to travel from Texas, where he was arrested, to Nevada for Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas. However, the details of Mahomes’ bond agreement reveal that he will be able to travel before his court date and therefore, he can be in Las Vegas to watch his son Patrick Mahomes compete for a third Super Bowl ring.

According to the conditions of Mahomes’ bail, which he posted on Sunday morning for $10,000, he can travel, but he cannot drink or partake in illegal drugs. He will have to appear at the Smith County probation office on Monday morning, just hours after the big game, to meet with an officer and receive further instructions.

Also, Mahomes will have to have an ignition interlock device on his car that will prohibit him from driving without first passing a breathalyzer test. The bond, which was overseen and signed by Judge James Meredith on February 4, includes the requirement for random alcohol and drug testing during his bond period.

Police arrested and booked Mahomes on Saturday around 8:30 p.m. in Tyler, Texas, Saturday night for driving while intoxicated third or more. Though it is his third arrest for the same charge in the state of Texas, which makes it a possible felony, the Chiefs star’s father has actually been arrested six times for DWI, including twice in 2012, twice in 2018 and once in 2019. He previously served 40 days in county jail for one of his arrests. The maximum prison sentence for a third or more offense DWI felony is 10 years in a Texas Department of Criminal Justice penitentiary.

Patrick Mahomes preparing for Super Bowl rematch vs. 49ers

Mahomes is going for Super Bowl No. 3 in just his sixth season starting in the NFL. Though he’s grown accustomed to the feeling of playing for the Lombardi Trophy, Mahomes said this week he isn’t taking anything for granted.

“You don’t take it for granted,” Mahomes said. “You never know how many you’re going to get to, or if you’re going to get to any. It truly is special just to do it with these guys after what we’ve been through all season long. Guys coming together, it really is special. But I told them the job’s not done. Our job now is to prepare ourselves to play a good football team in the Super Bowl. And try to get that ring.”

Standing in Mahomes and the Chiefs’ way is the 49ers, looking for their first Super Bowl championship since 1994. With all the firepower San Francisco brings to the table, Mahomes said that Kansas City is “locked in” when it comes to their preparation.

“We’re pretty locked in this — I mean both weeks, but you’re really locked in this week,” Mahomes said. “You want to make sure you get the whole game plan in. Get all your questions asked and answered so next week when you’re reviewing you can just go into the fine details that you might not have the chance to do in the regular game week. I’ll have that mindset all through practice. I’ll make sure the guys have the same mindset.”
