The scheduled fight between Patrick Mahomes Sr. and John Rocker has been canceled, Barstool Sports Founder Dave Portnoy revealed Friday.

Portnoy said on “The Unnamed Show” that Mahomes Sr.’s son, Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany, intervened to get the fight called off.

“This fight’s canceled,” Portnoy said. “… They came to us to do this. How would we ever come up with this concept? Like, let’s put John Rocker and Pat Mahomes Sr. [in the ring]; who would ever think of that? They came to us, said they hated each other and wanted to fight. Devlin [D’Zmura], who does the Rough N’ Rowdy was like, ‘Yeah, if they wanna fight, let’s do it.’

“Mahomes’ agent, the football player, and Brittany from what I am told, intervened and were like, ‘There’s no way this fight’s happening. We’re gonna cut this guy off if he does it.’ So, they canceled. … If they wanna fight, let them fight. That’s what I say.”

Portnoy previously announced the April 19 Rough N’ Rowdy boxing bout between Mahomes Sr. and Rocker in Wheeling, West Virginia. Mahomes Sr. and Rocker got into a confrontation on Bourbon Street during Super Bowl LIX week. Video showed the two exchanging words in a heated moment.

Mahomes Sr. admitted that his altercation with Rocker was “staged.” According to TMZ Sports, he made the admission on Feb. 13 when officials questioned him about his trip to New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX. Court documents obtained by TMZ Sports said the officials were slated to admonish Mahomes Sr. for his behavior. But Mahomes Sr. then confessed that the incident with Rocker “was a staged altercation to get publicity for [a] celebrity boxing match that was set to take place in April 2025.”

Mahomes Sr. was placed on probation last year after pleading guilty to a DWI charge. He was allowed to travel to Louisiana to watch his son play in the Super Bowl from Feb. 7 to Feb. 10. But when he got into the altercation with Rocker and missed a urine test on Feb. 11, officials wanted to question Mahomes.

Mahomes Sr. and Rocker both were MLB pitchers in the 1990s and 2000s. Mahomes pitched for multiple teams from 1992-2003, including the New York Mets, Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins. Rocker pitched from 1998-2003 and spent the majority of his career with the Atlanta Braves.

After the altercation in New Orleans, Mahomes Sr. and Rocker attacked each other on social media. “This f****** loser can’t take a damn joke,” Rocker wrote. “Wish I laid him out right there and ruined his bullshit weekend even more.”

“You really haven’t changed one bit in the last 25 years,” Mahomes Sr. wrote. “Keep my name out your loud mouth.”

Rocker responded: “You wouldn’t have had the balls to say that to my face the other night. Lanky ass clown.”
