Patrick Mahomes trucks 49ers defender on touchdown run
Patrick Mahomes once again came through with a clutch play when his team needed him Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback scored his first touchdown of the game late in the fourth quarter, but it didn’t come through the air.
Facing fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line, Mahomes took it himself, running over 49ers defender Malik Mustapha in the process. The QB leaned into the contact, sending Mustapha sailing backward as he bullied his way into the end zone to increase the lead to 21-12. You can view the moment below.
“I wasn’t even really trying to run him over,” Mahomes said of the play in a postgame interview with FOX sideline reporter Erin Andrews. “I was just trying to get in the end zone and I’m a little heavy. I’ve got some weight to me. So I ended up getting in there.”
The touchdown run from Mahomes would ultimately be a turning point in the game as the Chiefs went on to win by a score of 28-18. He carried the ball three times for 39 yards in addition to the touchdown, including a 33-yard scamper.

The victory improved Kansas City to 6-0 on the season and a number of those wins have come because of late-game heroics. Mahomes’ score Sunday was another such example as he continues to prove himself one of the best players in the league with the game on the line.
It was a rather below average day otherwise for Mahomes, as he finished just 16-of-27 passing for 154 yards and a pair of interceptions. In fact, he finished with the lowest passer rating (44.4) of his career.
In spite of the overall lackluster game, though, Mahomes delivered when it counted as he has time and time again this season. He’ll look to keep winning when the Chiefs face the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 8.
